Effective governing body self-evaluation

The Governance Handbook emphasises that “governing bodies should evaluate regularly their own effectiveness.” The DfE has written to chairs “It is your role to encourage within the governing body a culture of self-review with regular evaluation of the impact of the governing body.”

This course provides governors with a clear understanding of the importance of self-evaluating the effectiveness of their governing body and the positive impact this can have on improving the school. Session objectives:

  • recognise the importance of self-evaluation of the governing body
  • look at the role self-evaluation plays in developing an effective governing body and in school improvement
  • explore a range of self-evaluation tools to take back to your governing body to use, including:
