Aims

3.5 of the EYFS, (2021) states, ‘A practitioner must be designated to take lead responsibility for safeguarding children in every setting. Childminders must take the lead responsibility themselves. The lead practitioner is responsible for liaison with local statutory children's services agencies, and with the LSP. They must provide support, advice and guidance to any other staff on an ongoing basis, and on any specific safeguarding issue as required. The lead practitioner must attend a child protection training course that enables them to identify, understand and respond appropriately to signs of possible abuse and neglect (P.21)

Summary

 This one day training session considers the ways in which you or your setting’s designated lead/ officer can meet the requirements of this role by:

•           Understanding the role of the designated safeguarding lead/officer and the key areas of responsibility

•           Identifying and responding to different categories of harm and abuse and managing disclosures in the context of safeguarding children.

•           Reviewing the key legislation and guidance affecting your response to concerns about a child's safety or welfare

•           Knowing what is likely to happen following a referral to children's social care or other agency and the role the setting has in this multi-agency child protection process
