Early Words Together at 3 and 4 years - OPEN TO ALL PROVIDERS _ 17.10.23

Aims

Fun and simple activities to help young children learn and be ready for school

The Early Words Together (EWT) at 3 and 4 programme delivered in partnership by The National Literacy Trust and Southwark Family Hubs and Start for Life programme and provides you with a FREE toolkit of all the information you need to successfully run family sessions

It will:

• Build the practitioners understanding of the communication, language and literacy development of three and four year olds and the importance of the home learning environment (HLE)

• Help to share key activities and information with parents

• Provide parents with confidence and activity ideas to support their child’s development at home and get ready for school

Summary

Summary - The term ‘home learning environment’ (HLE) is used to describe any learning activity a child engages in at home. The aim is to model behaviours and encourage parents to engage in positive conversations, and activities that develop children’s listening, understanding and speaking skills.

The National Literacy Trust will co-deliver the main training and information day on  October 17^th 2023 - 10:00-15:00

This will then be followed by 6 x 2 hour activity and support sessions (1-6) delivered by Jo Gould during October and November which will be a mixture of in person and online support. There is no obligation to attend all of the sessions, practitioners can choose to attend one or all of the below, however, if this is the first time the setting has delivered EWT we do advise your practitioner to attend as many as they can.

The sessions will all take place from 10am to 12 noon and focus on:

Session 1 -  Supporting talk through imaginative play    26^th October 2023

Session 2  - Singing songs and rhymes                          2^nd November 2023     

Session 3  -  Sharing Books and Stories                         9^th November 2023  

Session 4  -  Mark Making                                              16^th November 2023

Session 5  -  Getting out and about                                23^rd November 2023

 Session 6  - Visiting the library and celebration            30^th November 2023
