•           Understand the importance of healthy brain development and impact of toxic stress

•           Understand the impact of ACEs to health and wellbeing over a lifetime

•           Recognise that building resilience can mitigate the impact of ACEs

•           Look for protective factors that can help to build resilience

Summary

We know that when children are exposed to adverse conditions, such as neglect, abuse, domestic violence, drug and substance misuse these will have a detrimental effect on the child. However, there are other issues, which can cause stress to children. These can also have a negative impact on their health and wellbeing and can carry on into adult life.

This 2-hour session is an introduction to what ACEs are, the effects on children and how to recognise and support children to build resilience.
