Aims
The Department for Education has stated that by 2025, all settings will:
Create a Climate Action Plan: A comprehensive strategy that details how a school will work to decarbonise and improve its energy efficiency in line with achieving the UK’s net zero goals.
Appoint a sustainability lead: The role of the sustainability lead is to drive forward both action and awareness for the school. Driving forward the Climate Action Plan, build community engagement, and support the integration of sustainability into the curriculum.
The sustainability lead/s can be teaching staff, SLT or governors.
We are working with our schools to make them more sustainable and resilient to climate change. As part of this process we are encouraging, funding and delivering projects to minimise emissions and energy use from school buildings and adapting schools to the impacts of climate change, such as heatwaves and floods.
Following the success of our first workshop, we are hosting a further day of support for schools to develop Climate Action Plans and learn more about upgrading your buildings from experts from Let's Go Zero and RAFT (Retrofit Action for Tomorrow)
The session is designed for any staff members with an interest in delivering climate action and improving school buildings, this includes site managers, sustainability leads, governors and SLT.
Summary
The session is designed for staff members with an interest in delivering climate action and improving school buildings. This includes site managers, sustainability leads, governors and SLT. You will gain most from the workshop if two people attend: a site manager (or someone who knows your buildings well) and a SLT member / sustainability lead / governor.
