Southwark Climate Action Schools Network – Next Meeting

The network aims to meet once every school term and will focus on a different topic at each meeting. The next meeting with be in late April 2023. Please check back here for further details.

Previous Meetings

October 2022 – Introducing the Network

Our first meeting focussed on discussing how the network would run moving forward. We heard from a variety of speakers, including:

SE24/SELCE - SE24 are a community energy co-op who encourage and develop locally owned renewable energy projects, and energy conservation measures, to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and put money back into the local community to challenge fuel poverty.

GLA - The GLA are working on School Superzones, which are place-based interventions around schools in areas of the greatest disadvantage. They aim to protect children’s health and enable healthy behaviours.

January 2023 – Climate Education

The focus of this meeting was on how we teach climate change on the curriculum. We heard from:

Earth Cubs: Earth Cubs aims to educate kids about the environment by providing entertaining and inspiring resources. They can provide free resources include teaching packs, lesson plans, activities, comics and videos that cover a range of environmental topics in a fun engaging way.

PPL PWR: a group of volunteers, including students, promoting sustainable innovation, predominantly through interactive workshops in schools and in communities. PPL PWR delivers interactive workshops to students of all ages, empowering them to engage with and build their own sustainable innovations, including DIY wind turbines, terrariums and solar phone chargers.

Green Schools Project: Green Schools Project supports schools to develop an adequate response to the climate and ecological crisis. They help students to lead projects, they deliver teacher training sessions, and support schools to reduce their carbon emissions.
