Southwark Music Splash Festival

Southwark splash 2022

On the 13th of July 2022, Southwark Music Splash Festival is taking place at 1pm and 6pm by local Southwark primary schools in the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Entry costs £5 (with an additional £3.50 booking fee) and anyone over 18 months needs to have a ticket to attend; it has a duration of an hour.

The project combines key themes such as confidence, courage, resilience and fairness to celebrate the life Desmond Tutu through song, dance and spoken word. Desmond Tutu was a South African human rights activist, who won the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize "for his role as a unifying leader figure in the non-violent campaign to resolve the problem of apartheid in South Africa." He also became the first Black Anglican Archbishop of both Cape Town and Johannesburg. He passed away in 2021 at the age of 90, with the legacy of a hero due to his commitment to equality and integrity. Tutu chaired the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that was necessary for the country to heal from the wounds caused by apartheid.

Southwark schools with help from pianist Pete Letanka, vocalist Rebecca Baxter, and dancers Natasha Khamjani and Derya Donaldson have created a compelling performance, suited to everyone, depicting his life and celebrating his long-lasting achievements which positively impacted millions.
