Consultation on Southwark's Early Years Funding Arrangements From April 2024

The extension of funded early years provision to firstly 2 year-old and subsequently 9 month-old pupils, has led the Department for Education (DfE) to review its rules regarding local authorities’ funding arrangements for early years providers.

The DfE consulted on proposed changes between July 21st 2023 and September 8th 2023 and published its response to the consultation on November 29th, 2023.

As a consequence of the changes contained in the DfE’s consultation response document, Southwark is required to carry out its own consultation with all providers of the early years funded entitlements in the borough, regarding its proposed implementation of these changes to local funding arrangements.

The consultation website includes a consultation document which provides details of DfE’s changes and Southwark’s proposals on their implementation. Please read the document before submitting your responses to the consultation questions.

This consultation is being carried out by the Schools Finance Team on behalf of Children and Adult Services, Southwark Council. 

We encourage all providers of the early years funded entitlements in Southwark to respond to the consultation and look forward to hearing from you by the closing date of 22 December 2023.
