National Honour for Southwark’s Outstanding D&T Leader
National recognition for outstanding D&T leadership
The RB&O Schools Create & Design Excellence Award for Outstanding Primary Subject Leadership
Lil Jayawardhana, curriculum coordinator at St James the Great Catholic Primary School in Peckham and D&T trainer supporting Southwark schools, has received national recognition, winning the Royal Ballet & Opera Schools Create & Design Excellence Award for Outstanding Primary Subject Leadership.
Presented at the Design & Technology Association Excellence Awards on 9 October 2026 at the Museum of Making in Derby, this distinguished honour celebrates Lil’s exceptional contribution to D&T education, both within her school and across Southwark.
Her award-winning approach brings together ambitious curriculum design, inclusive teaching and inspiring, real-world projects. Through practical training, including computer-aided design using Tinkercad, she also helps fellow teachers develop the confidence and expertise to strengthen D&T in their own schools.
Learn from an award-winning leader
Headteachers are encouraged to book a place for their D&T subject lead at Lil’s forthcoming session—a valuable opportunity to learn from a nationally recognised colleague and bring fresh ambition to their school’s D&T provision.
