Share our new budget conversation with parents and carers

Please can you share this important new conversation with parents and carers about how we navigate one of the most challenging financial periods Southwark Council has faced. There’s also a campaign banner you can use in your newsletters and emails.

Southwark’s budget challenge: have your say

Southwark Council provides many services that families rely on, including support for children, older and disabled people, housing, libraries, parks, streets and community spaces.

The council expects a £102 million gap in its budget over the next three years. This means the amount it expects to spend is £102 million more than the funding it expects to have. The gap is being driven by reduced government funding, growing demand for social care, rising costs and the increasing cost of temporary accommodation.

The council must set a balanced budget, so difficult choices will need to be made about savings, services and income. It wants residents’ views to help shape these decisions.

How parents and carers can take part

Share your views online and tell the council which services matter most to your family, where money could be used better and how it could raise more income.

Try the budget calculator

You can also use Southwark Council’s budget calculator to explore how changes to spending and income could help close the £102 million gap. You do not have to balance the full amount—submit your choices when you have done what you can.

If you submit your budget and contact details, you will be entered into a draw to win one of six £50 shopping vouchers.
