Aims

The aim of a Speech and Language Therapy referral is to make sure that children reach their speech, language and communication potential, whatever their level of ability and preferred communication method. In this session we shall take time to go through the process of making a referral to Speech and Language Therapy, considering as we do so, the, 'what, when, why and how'

Summary

A referral to Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) is so important when there are significant concerns about a child's communication, language development, speech sounds, or eating and swallowing abilities. Referrals are also appropriate if a child's communication difficulties are impacting their social, emotional, or learning development, or if they are experiencing difficulties with stammering. Additionally, if strategies and interventions from a universal level have not been effective, then we must consider a referral may be necessary

In this short session we shall focus on the befts of making a referral and 'when, why and how' is the bes time
