Aims

Learn how to use visual supports in class to support children with ASD

Summary
This session will be led by an experienced member of the Autism Support Team, who provide support for children with a diagnosis of ASD in mainstream schools across Southwark.
Visuals can support learning by
- Teaching self-control e.g. cues to behaviour expectations
- Support appropriate behaviour e.g. social stories, rules, steps of behaviour scripted conversation starters
- Understanding the environment e.g. labels, signs
- Provide directions or instructions e.g. visual displays of classroom rules, task sheets, break down of tasks,
- Organise pupils activities e.g. schedules, now and next boards, checklist, calendars, choice boards
