Job Evaluations
About the job evaluation scheme
Southwark Council uses the Hay Method of Job Evaluation, which is linked to Southwark’s NJC pay scales (for support staff). Job evaluation enables objective judgements to be made. This meets equal pay law in principle.
The Hay Method of Job Evaluation measures jobs by assessing three distinct factors – the knowledge needed to do the job, the problem solving/thinking required by the job and the extent to which the job is accountable, within procedure, policy and managerial control/supervision, for achieving its objectives through the use and/or management of resources.
The Schools’ HR team are trained and accredited to evaluate roles using this scheme. Each job is evaluated by a panel of trained HR professionals.
Note: Teaching jobs are not required to be evaluated and salaries should be in line with the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document and the school’s adopted pay policy.
