Job Evaluations
About the Job Evaluation Scheme
Southwark Council uses the Hay Method of Job Evaluation, which aligns with Southwark’s NJC pay scales for support staff. This method ensures objective and consistent evaluations, supporting compliance with equal pay legislation.
How the Hay Method Works
The Hay Method assesses jobs using three key factors:
- Knowledge: The expertise and skills required to perform the role.
- Problem Solving: The level of analytical thinking and decision-making necessary.
- Accountability: The extent to which the role is responsible for achieving objectives, managing resources, and operating within established policies and procedures.
All evaluations are conducted by a panel of trained and accredited HR professionals from the Schools’ HR team.
Note: Teaching roles are not subject to job evaluation. Salaries for teaching staff are determined in accordance with the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document and the school’s adopted pay policy.
