Assistive Technology in Education

CENMAC are a team of specialists who support children and young people experiencing barriers to learning and/or communication to access the curriculum and/or to communicate using assistive technology.

Important Update as of June 2026

CENMAC Update

The Southwark CENMAC Assistive Technology review has concluded, and a draft report will be shared with the Skilled and Competent Settings Operational Group on 2 July 2026.

The pause on new CENMAC referrals will remain in place throughout Summer 2, as referrals made during this period often lead to assessments taking place during or after the summer holidays.

At present, no new referrals will be processed, except in urgent or emergency cases and for new in-borough arrivals.

Children and young people already receiving CENMAC support will continue to access their provision as usual.

For pupils transferring to secondary or post-16 settings, CENMAC equipment will be collected before the summer break or as arranged with your CENMAC Advisory Teacher. Please note that provision does not automatically transfer between settings.

Urgent queries: cenmac@southwark.gov.uk

Schools and settings will be notified once referrals reopen.
