Inclusion and Monitoring team

The Inclusion & monitoring and SEND standards teams work with maintained, free and academy schools in Southwark to support the development of best practice across the borough, in regards to educating children and young people with SEND in mainstream settings.

SEND consultants are the main point of contact for schools and SENCOs seeking support, for individual support from the inclusion and montoring team please ask to be referred by your consultant.

What can my consultant help with?

Consultant support is informed by the Southwark SEND standards and bespoke to each setting, it could include:

  • Supporting schools to review SEND provision and identify areas of need
  • Providing INSET and twilight training sessions contributing to staff CPD
  • Advising and providing recommendations on specific demographics or conditions, such as EYFS, ASD and challenging behaviour
  • Supporting complex cases
  • Supporting adherance to current policy and stutory guidance via the Southwark SEND standards

What can the inclusion and monitoring team help with?

  • Support for SENCOs on statutory requirments: provision mapping, 'assess, plan, do, review', annual reviews and needs assessment requests
  • Support for SpLD and requesting a student Dyslexia assessment
  • Follow up for schools and families where an EHC needs assessment request recieves a 'not to proceed' response
  • Support for SENCOs where the LA requests further evidence as part of an EHC needs assessment request
  • Offer bespoke SEN training and CPD to schools

All primary schools in Southwark have an allocated SEND consultant. As of September 2024 all secondary schools also have an allocated consultant, for more information or to find out who your school's consultant is please contact selainclusionandsend@southwark.gov.uk
