How Children’s Experiences Affect the Developing Brain

Understanding behaviour through the lens of brain development and trauma

Children’s behaviour tells a story. Tears, outbursts, withdrawal, and defiance are often signs of unmet needs — not “bad behaviour”.

This engaging training explores how adversity, stress, and relationships shape the developing brain, and how adults can respond in ways that promote safety, regulation, and resilience.

We are lucky enough to be joined by Dr Jacqueline Harding, author of 'The Brain that Loves to Play' on the last date of the course.

🧠 What you’ll learn

  • How children’s brains develop and respond to stress
  • The impact of trauma and adverse experiences on behaviour and learning
  • Why children struggle with emotional regulation
  • The link between attachment, safety, and behaviour
  • Trauma‑informed approaches that really help
  • Practical strategies you can use immediately

👥 This training is ideal for:

  • Early years and school staff
  • Childminders
  • SENDCo's
  • Anyone working with children

The course dates are 8th, 15th & 22nd May – 9:30am-2:30pm (Fridays) and will be held at the Tooley Street offices.
