Physical Activity and Healthy Lifestyle

As part of your Healthy Schools London journey, in this section you will find information that support schools in prioritising physical activity and healthy lifestyle.

A healthy diet is central to the health and wellbeing of children and young people. There are a growing number of people affected by chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. A good diet in childhood can help protect against chronic diseases like these in later life.

Children and young people should understand the health benefits of physical activity and be encouraged to be physically active and have the opportunity to participate in a range of physical activities within and outside the school day. The physical environment can encourage the whole school community to be active.
