SEND Capital Funding Opportunity
The Council is offering funding to support all Southwark Schools in promoting inclusive learning environments that benefit pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
What Can Schools Apply For?
Schools may apply for funding to support small-scale capital projects that improve accessibility and inclusion for SEND pupils. Examples include:
- Minor modifications to classrooms, therapy rooms, or other learning spaces with a SEND-specific focus (creation of sensory rooms, SEN bases).
- Long-term use of specialised equipment such as assistive technology (e.g. hoists) or adapted furniture.
- Accessibility improvements e.g., ramps, automatic doors, or handrails.
- Enhancements to outdoor learning areas, including sensory paths, sensory panels.
- Lighting upgrades for pupils with visual impairments or sensory sensitivities.
- Soundproofing to reduce noise levels and support sensory regulation.
What Is Not Funded?
This funding is strictly for capital works and cannot be used for:
- Staffing or operational costs
- Educational materials, books, training, or enrichment activities
- General maintenance or works not specifically benefiting SEND pupils
- Individual specialist equipment needs
Funding Details
- The LA can provide support for eligible projects costing up to £15,000
- For projects exceeding this amount, please refer to page 7 of the detailed SEND Capital guidance.
How to Apply
The application process has two stages:
- Submit an Expression of Interest form to SchoolCapitalProjects@southwark.gov.uk. Your EOI will be reviewed by the LA using the evaluation process outlined in the detailed SEND Capital guidance .
- If successful, you’ll be invited to complete a full bid form outlining the project and costings.
Approval and Next Steps
Once your project is approved at both stages:
- Proceed with the works.
- Submit paid invoices and photos of the completed project to SchoolCapitalProjects@southwark.gov.uk.
- Reimbursement will be processed by LBS Finance.
