Aims
When the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) safeguarding reforms come into effect in September 2025, 3.4 will be updated to state that, ‘In every setting, a practitioner must be designated to take lead responsibility for safeguarding children. The designated safeguarding lead (DSL) is responsible for liaison with local statutory children's services agencies, and with the LSP (Local Safeguarding Partners).
it will also go on to state, in 3.25 ‘The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) must provide support, advice and guidance to all practitioners and any other staff on an ongoing basis, and on any specific safeguarding issue as required. The DSL must attend a child protection training course consistent with the criteria set out in Annex C.
Summary
This one-day training session considers the ways in which you or your setting’s DSL can meet the requirements of this role by:
•Understanding the role of the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) and the key areas of responsibility
•Identifying and responding to different categories of harm and abuse and managing disclosures in the context of safeguarding children.
•Reviewing the key legislation and guidance affecting the response to concerns about a child's safety or welfare
•Knowing what is likely to happen following a referral to children's social care or other agency and the role the setting has in this multi-agency child protection process
