3.5 of the EYFS, (2024) states, ‘In every setting, a practitioner must be designated to take lead responsibility for safeguarding children. The lead practitioner is responsible for liaison with local statutory children's services agencies, and with the LSP (Local Safeguarding Partners). All practitioners must be alert to any issues of concern in the child’s life at home or elsewhere.’
Summary

- Understanding the role of the designated safeguarding lead/officer and the key areas of responsibility
- Identifying and responding to different categories of harm and abuse and managing disclosures in the context of safeguarding children.
- Reviewing the key legislation and guidance affecting your response to concerns about a child's safety or welfare
- Knowing what is likely to happen following a referral to children's social care or other agency and the role the setting has in this multi-agency child protection process.
