Aims

This primary-focused session will explore how schools can secure continuity in pupils’ mathematical learning as they move between year groups and key stages. Subject leaders will consider how shared language, representations, calculation strategies and assessment practices can help pupils build confidently on prior learning.

The session will focus on practical approaches that support progression across the primary phase, particularly during transitions into Reception, between Key Stages 1 and 2, and from Year 6 to secondary school. The NCETM highlights the importance of common approaches, representations and mathematical vocabulary, as well as understanding what pupils need to be ready for the next year group
