November 21 - Launch of Improving Mental Health and Resilience in Schools (IMHARS) Programme
Championing Resilience – IMHARS & Wellbeing for Education Event, Millwall FC, 22/11/21.
This event launched Southwark’s new “Wellbeing First – IMHARS through a whole school & college approach” programme, framework and resources, as well as a celebration and sharing of IMHARS project work in 2020/21, supporting mental health and wellbeing across educational settings.
Event Aims
- Explore the latest developments in emotional, social & physical wellbeing and mental health, including, understanding resilience and how to develop resilience as part of a whole-school/college approach to improving children and young people’s wellbeing and mental health (WB & MH)
- Learn from schools sharing their practice on adopting a whole-school/college approach in promoting positive WB & MH
- Learn about local services that can provide support for schools
- Continue strengthening local collaborations and partnership working as well as engage with experts
- Identify further CPD, training and support that schools would find most helpful
- Access the new “Wellbeing First: IMHARS” resilience resources for schools and college
Workshops:
- Effective Assessment of the PSHE & Wellbeing curriculum. Marco Mini from Phoenix Primary School, Mayflower Federation
- Developing an emotional mentor system. Claire Navaie from The Grove Nursery School
- Introducing Southwark’s “Wellbeing First – IMHARS through a whole school & college approach” programme, framework and resources”. Kellie Ansell education consultant and former Deputy head teacher and Healthy Schools Champion. This workshop will look at the materials in more depth and explore some of the resources and interventions available for children at risk.
- Developing the school environment to support WB & MH - a secondary school’s journey. Sarah Murray Thompson, Harris Girls Academy East Dulwich. Overview of my HGAED journey so far; the Health Hut and the Peace Garden and how they were funded and established. My work with external agencies, including input from my co-presenter Sherée Prosper from LEAP and the impact on the young people. We will end with a short, guided Mindfulness Meditation.
- The Standout Project. Effective Early Intervention in School. An evaluation of the work of five schools: Helen Walsh and Matt Kenney from Rotherhithe Primary School
- I’m ok, you’re ok – Why prioritise Wellbeing? Why reflective journaling? Fiona Redmond and Jade Rhoden from Surrey Square Primary School. Come and find out how reflective journals are used and how wellbeing is prioritised and timetabled as part of our curriculum. We will share what is special about SSQ and how we have developed this work throughout our school
