Training and development programme 2024 - 2025
Prevent in education: training for governors and trustees in schools
The Prevent duty requires schools to “have due regard to the need to prevent people being drawn into terrorism," as described in Home Office guidance and the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015.
As a governor, your role is one of oversight. This responsibility could be taken by the full board, a committee, the safeguarding link governor, or a dedicated link governor for Prevent.
Support with the implementation of Prevent in education
Additional support and advice to help implement your Prevent responsibilities includes:
-
e-learning courses on Prevent from the Home Office
-
safeguarding learners susceptible to radicalisation guidance
-
the Department for Education’s Educate Against Hate website
-
Training and support materials for implementing Prevent in higher education (HE)
Virtual training sessions
DfE regional Prevent education coordinators (RPECs) support and improve Prevent delivery in each region of England. The RPECs offer large, virtual training sessions that are available to anyone working within an education setting in England. They focus on the implementation of Prevent and are designed primarily for those in dedicated safeguarding or Prevent roles. You can find the latest sessions below.
