Wednesday 4th December 18:00 to 19:30 in person @ 160 Tooley Street
Wednesday 5th March 18:00 to 19:30 in person @ 160 Tooley Street
One of the three core functions of the governing body is to oversee the school’s financial performance and make sure money is well spent. (Governance Handbook, 2020). This session aims to help governors in their strategic role to effectively allocate resources to meet the objectives in the school development plan whilst ensuring value for money. It examines the role of governors in budget preparation and explains the process for its monitoring. You will have an opportunity to consider:
· What is the school budget and how is it made up?
· What is your budget looking to achieve?
· Key factors in setting the budget
· Budget approval
· Setting up a monitoring schedule
· Budget monitor reports
· Using benchmarking information and financial planning tools
Target audience: all governors need to have a good understanding of issues discussed in this session but it will be particularly helpful to those on finance/resources committees (maintained schools)
