RPA Insurance – Mandatory Cyber Security Training

For information/action:

If the school/academy is covered by RPA (Risk Protection Arrangement) insurance, there is a specific requirement around cyber security training for governors.

Under the DfE RPA Membership Rules, any governor or trustee who has a school or trust email account (this counts as access to the school’s IT system) must complete National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) training annually.

This requirement applies because:

  • A school/trust email account is classed as access to the Member’s information technology system
  • In the event of a cyber‑related insurance claim, the school must evidence that the relevant that any Employee or Governor involved in the claim has completed the NCSC training
  • If this evidence cannot be provided, the claim may be invalid

What you need to do (Action):

✅ Complete the NCSC cyber security training NCSC Training for all Employees and Governors

✅ Ensure it is completed annually

✅ The training should be completed by the start of the RPA membership year
