The Prevent Duty - safeguarding from extremism and radicalisation

Since the introduction of the Prevent Duty as part of the 2015 Counter Terrorism and Security Act, all schools must have “due regard to the need to protect people from terrorism”. This means that it is mandatory for all school staff and governors to be aware of the duty and its requirements.

You can access the Home Office online training package here: https://www.support-people-vulnerable-to-radicalisation.service.gov.uk/
It provides a good overview of the statutory Prevent duty for schools, helps identify any risks your school might be exposed to in relation to this important safeguarding issue, and to understand how robust safeguarding processes and the promotion of British Values can make your school more resilient.

If your school requires support directly from the Southwark Prevent team regarding radicalisation concerns, they should email prevent@southwark.gov.uk for advice.
